A Solar Water Pump is a pump running on electricity generated by photovoltaic panels or the radiated thermal energy available from collected sunlight as opposed to grid electricity or diesel run water pumps. The operation of solar powered pumps is more economical mainly due to the lower operation and maintenance costs and has less environmental impact than pumps powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE). Solar pumps are useful where grid electricity is unavailable and alternative sources (in particular wind) do not provide sufficient energy.
A Photovoltaic Solar powered pump system has three Components:
1. Solar panels
2. The controller
3. The pump
The solar panels make up most (up to 80%) of the systems cost. The size of the PV-system is directly dependent on the size of the pump, the amount of water that is required (m³/d) and the solar irradiance available.
1. There is no fuel cost - as it uses available free sun light.
2. They are environment-Friendly which makes it an easy choice in the environment we are living in.
3. No electricity required, it helps in saving Energy.
4. Can be operated lifelong.
5. It is highly reliable and durable.
6. It creates wealth for farmers by increasing no. of crops.
7. Easy to operate and maintain.
8. It is also useful for clean, drinking water sanitation and also irrigation.
9. It reduces the dependence on rain is reduced.
